Certain students at Parsons studying Communication Design (my major) were given an assignment their second year to brand themselves. I was not in one of those classes, therefore I was never made to do it.
It's getting pretty close to the absolute deadline of doing this, so I've finally hunkered down and did it.
I finally got somewhere decent on my designs for thesis.
Brian and I are getting SUPER antsy. (We're ready for a change!!!)
If you haven't seen Rio, you should. It's got great music and it's just a good movie.
I'm probably getting to the point of too tired to stay awake, let alone write this silly little post, but I really wanted to share about Rio. You really should watch it :)
And here's a photo of our dinner tonight, just to add some visuals.
Cheddar chicken bake, smothered with butter asparagus, and the substitute for potatoes that went bad :) Smiley fries!
A couple months ago, a friend I grew up with in Sitka, Lela, started campaigning around Facebook to vote for her video. Brian and I have done this type of thing multiple times, so we completely understand and started voting. (Brian met Lela when he was in Sitka managing).
The video was her and her girlfriend, Steph, at a snowy place in Anchorage telling the world that they should be chosen to wed on the top of the Empire State Building through a contest run by Colin Cowie who is a celebrity event and wedding planner. They had made it past the first cut, but they needed to be in the top 4 for voting.
Their efforts paid off and... THEY WON!
They were flown to NYC, got some gorgeous wedding bands from DeBeers, wedding dress and tux from Kleinfelds, put up in The Pierre hotel, and a beautiful morning wedding and reception designed by the Colin Cowie team.
Most of all,
they were the first gay couple to be married on top of the Empire State Building!
Lela and Steph were both gorgeous and all smiles. We were honoured to be part of their special day and couldn't be happier for them.
Hello world! It's me, Brian! I see things look a bit more girly around here since my last post. Serves me right for abandoning the blogging world like that.
As you know from Isa's posts, we've been busy creating a new Android application (for those of you that are less tech savvy than others, there are four basic types of smart phones out there - iPhones, Windows phones, Blackberry's, and pretty much everything else is an Android phone). Our application works on Android phones. It finds your location and points out spots around you where you can sit down and relax. If you haven't seen the demonstration video yet, watch that here:
We entered the video into a citywide contest, with $50k in prizes. We're eligible for about $23,000 if we win all the categories we're entered in. (Could you even imagine?!?!!!!) Most winners are based solely on the judges' discretion and criteria, and we just hope they love our app as much as we do. :)
But there is one $4000 category called the Popular Choice Award. And that's where you come in. We need votes. You can vote once a day, so keep coming back each day to help. And tell your friends. It's really easy.
For now, here's what we would LOVE for you to do:
1. Create a profile (which is super easy) on the BigApps 3.0 page: http://2011.nycbigapps.com/ (top right corner, click sign up)
2. Go to your email and click the link to confirm your email address. That will open up the BigApps 3.0 page again.
4. Make a comment below the app. It could be about the video, about the app, about the idea, just saying hello, wishing us good luck, or complete gibberish. You can't vote yet, but you can leave a comment.
Voting doesn't start until tomorrow (Thursday) at 10am, but commenting now helps put our app toward the top for people who don't know what they're looking for. :)
You're the best! Thanks!
Oh, and how, you may ask, does this help us make a baby? Well, babies are expensive. And our savings account could use a boost so that we'll be financially ready for offspring.
I am back in the weekly process of going to school, getting work, doing work, turning it in.
My toughest class by far: Calligraphy.
Since we're starting from the beginning with basic letterforms, I know it should be work. But this guy. No mercy. If all your R's are perfect (not my case), he'll find the one that's not and mark it wrong. If some of your T's are crooked, he'll find the bad ones.
Here is the homework.
Very tedious. 3 pages on 9x11in. 1/4 in doubled spaced. But I don't mind, I can "watch" (listen to) Will & Grace or Arrested Development while I write :)
My other Monday class: Package Design.
We're creating a "rustic, charming, playful" matchbox for Arthur Kitchen Matches.
Let me know which is your favorite! (or any other comments!)
